Dreams of a Summer Night
Score available on Amazon A musical in two acts by Stimson, Otheim and Snead Dreams of a Summer Night is loaded with big Broadway style music [classic jazz, rock and ballad, solo and ensemble,] powerful songs of love and unrequited love, wild dance numbers; even pole dancing on top of a bar, and joyous revelries. Inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer-Night’s Dream, it’s about wishes that come true for nine couples over a twenty-four hour period in the atomically scorched neon forests of Vegas. The story takes place at the romantic Amorosa Hotel where MR. OBERON runs the casino. TATIANA is his estranged wife and headline showgirl. LYLE and HARRIET are fleeing her stalker, DEMIAN, even as Demian flees his emotionally masochistic ex, HELEN. The rustics are now middle-aged, middle-class married couples, and yes, BOTTOM is still an ass. Throw in a magic potion that may, or may not be legal in the state of Nevada and this will be a weekend to remember… that is if PUCK, the hotel fixer, can bring them all together. Weaving their way through this series of events are the four WONDER BOYS. These singer/dancers are everywhere as waiters, as card dealers, as a chorus kick line, and as witness’s to the happily-ever-after wedding of all nine couples by an ELVIS impersonator/preacher in the rousing finale. Finally, under a blanket of stars, Mr. Puck reminds the audience that, in the end, love is everything. Dreams of a Summer Night is meant as a valentine celebrating the romantic dreamer in all of us.
